ABOUT US

OMAMA was born with its heart in the Amazon and its eyes on the future. We exist to break a cycle of destruction that for decades has tied poverty to deforestation and to prove that it is possible to generate wealth with the forest standing.

We create products, jobs, and production systems that value the land and offer real opportunities for the people who live in it. Our name carries that purpose. OMAMA comes from the Yanomami language and refers to the figure who creates and sustains life, the one who gave rise to the earth, the rivers, and the wind.

Our wood has been shaped by the land and fed by the pulse of the forest. Time has left its marks: stories of strength, resilience, and survival. It has traveled along the tributaries of the Amazon River, arriving in Manaus, home to Omama’s workshop and headquarters.

In the hands of our skilled artisans, keepers of ancestral techniques and knowledge, the wood is reborn as finely crafted design objects, bringing our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community empowerment to life.

By regenerating noble wood species once left to decay, we connect environmental preservation with economic growth, creating jobs and offering sustainable alternatives to deforestation while protecting the future of the Amazon.

Our entire production process is meticulous and fully artisanal, unfolding across ten stages from raw material in its natural state to the finished piece that arrives in your home. Each step reflects the meeting point between untouched nature and elevated design.

Respecting the rhythm of the forest, we use only wood sourced through sustainable forest management in full compliance with Brazil’s Forest Code and under the strict oversight of IBAMA, the national environmental agency. This process ensures that every OMAMA piece comes from safe, certified sources, reaffirming our commitment to protect the rich biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest.

Madeira Central
3. Journey
The blocks travel long distances by river, sometimes for over 15 hours by boat, from remote forest regions to our facility in Manaus.
4. Initial Shaping
At the workshop, each block is placed on the lathe and begins its transformation, roughly shaped into the early outline of its final form.
5. Drying
For eight days, the pieces rest in a climate-controlled kiln heated up to 50°C. This step reduces moisture, eliminates fungi and bacteria, and stabilizes the wood for the fine work ahead.
6. Final Shaping
Once dried, each piece returns to the lathe for precise sculpting. The shape is refined, the lines sharpened, and the proportions finalized.
7. Sanding
Nine stages of sanding bring the surface to life, revealing the natural grain, softening every edge, and ensuring a smooth, flawless finish. Every piece is thoroughly inspected.
8. Finishing
Over two days, three coats of natural oil are hand-applied. The wood absorbs each layer deeply, enriching its structure and tone while protecting it from within.
9. Sealing
In another two-day process, we apply three layers of natural wax by hand. This step seals the wood’s pores, adds resilience against shifting climates, and enhances the tactile quality of each piece.
10. Polishing
Each piece is hand-polished until it shines with a soft, natural glow. This final step brings out the depth of the wood and the soul of the craftsmanship.
1. Sourcing
Each piece begins deep in the Amazon, where we partner with certified cooperatives, associations, and sawmills operating under Brazil’s Sustainable Forest Management Plan. Every log is sourced legally, ethically, and with full traceability.
2. Breakdown
Logs are sawn into clean, square blocks weighing around 60kg. This is the raw form from which every OMAMA piece begins.

Where legacy grows and prosperity is shared.

At OMAMA, people are at the center of everything we do. We believe environmental and social progress must go hand in hand. Our mission goes beyond creating beautiful objects. We are building a regenerative production model that creates opportunity, nurtures talent, and empowers communities throughout the Amazon.

In Novo Aripuanã, a riverside town about 700 kilometers from Manaus, we have partnered with 15 families from AIMMNA, the local association of wood and furniture producers. Together we are helping the community thrive through the responsible harvesting of certified wood, a legal and sustainable practice that supports local livelihoods while protecting the long-term health of the forest.

Training future artisans

To preserve a disappearing craft and expand access to skilled employment, we created Oficina Viva, our immersive artisan training program. With 80 hours of hands-on and classroom learning, participants blend ancestral knowledge with modern techniques, keeping the art of woodworking alive while preparing for full-time careers.

Oficina
From training to employment

The program is led by our master artisan Francisco Chagas, whose five decades of experience began when he was just a teenager. After completing the course, graduates are hired as full-time employees and continue developing their skills inside the OMAMA workshop. Today our production team includes 22 artisans, men and women, working across every step of the process. We are continuously hiring and expect to grow this number to 500 over the next few years, expanding our impact and deepening our roots across the region.

“I really love the person I’ve become since I started working at OMAMA.”

– Gizele, Lathe Assistant

Gizele joined OMAMA in 2024 as part of the very first class in our artisan training program (Oficina Viva). For her, working with her hands was more than just learning a craft. It was a way to heal from past trauma. With patience and care, she found a safe space to face her fears and today brings our designs to life, sculpting wood at the lathe. Her greatest joy is contributing to her family’s income and being part of OMAMA’s cycle of impact.

“OMAMA’s training program opened up new paths and possibilities, both here and beyond.”

– Fernanda, Lathe Assistant

After experiencing a major personal loss, Fernanda found herself raising two children on her own. At OMAMA, she was able to sharpen her carpentry skills, something she had learned early in life when she first started working. Today, she has a new source of income and is one of the most skilled artisans on our team.

“The working conditions at OMAMA make me want to stay, grow, and keep contributing to something bigger.”

– Amilton, Master Turner

After 15 years away from the woodworking industry and many disappointments, Amilton found his craft again at OMAMA. Here he received the support he needed to rebuild his career and continue growing professionally. More than anything, he feels like a vital part of the company and of the story we are building together.

“Omama has become my second family.”

– Júlio Cesar, Junior Artisan

For Júlio, OMAMA isn’t just a workplace, it’s a new beginning. His journey was shaped by challenges and limited opportunities, but here he found room to grow. He learned a new craft, rediscovered his worth, and became part of something bigger. Today, more than a source of income, OMAMA represents a family to him: a place where he feels seen, respected, and encouraged to grow.

“I hope the people who buy OMAMA pieces understand they’re part of something extraordinary.”

– Gabriel, Supply Chain Analyst

When Gabriel first joined Omama, he was drawn in by the beauty of the products. But it was through daily experience that he came to understand the deeper impact of what he was helping to build. Today, he sees OMAMA as a force for both personal and collective transformation, one that creates jobs, autonomy, and a real future. For him, each piece is proof that design can change lives, not just objects.
